Judging A Holiday
“Judging a Hol(i)day” - Colossians 2:16
It is interesting how that much of what has become of modern “holidays” is the telling of lies, primarily to children.
In scripture we find the truth about “holydays” because they were ordained by God and recorded by Moses under the law for the nation of Israel. If a Jew wanted to know about his “holyday” he could go to the Torah and read about it (Ps. 42:4). The only way a “holyday” became perverted was if man corrupted the scripture, lied about scripture, or hid the scripture from being known.
The same can be said about the major “holidays” that are “respected” in America. Much of what is done or said concerning these days is a lie based on corrupt information, lying information, or “hidden” information.
Here are the lies children are told with “respect” to four major “holidays” in America:
1. Santa brought you those gifts (not that mom and/or dad worked, saved, bought those gifts; and it’s the day Christian’s honor Jesus Christ’s birth.)
2. The Easter bunny lays eggs (not that it’s a pagan day centered around fertility and the pagan “goddess” Ishtar. Let alone that it’s been “hooked up” with the day Christian’s honor Christ’s resurrection.)
3. Thanksgiving is about eating a turkey dinner and football (not that it was a sober day of prayer by the pilgrims for their “salvation”).
4. Halloween is harmless being about “trick or treat” candy and costumes (not the pagan, Celtic, religious festival of Samhain.)
Before one gets upset over how they are judged in light of their “right” to “respect” a holiday, consider the questions, what do you know about your holiday and what are you telling your children about your holiday? If parents want children to honor and respect them, then the least we can do as parents is tell our children the truth.
