God's words matter
The goal of every human is to “live.” For the lost, it is to live through the pleasure of eating and drinking. For the child of God, “bread alone” is not enough. He must “live” “by every word…of God.” Paul said, “For to me to live is Christ…” (Philippians 1:21a). There is no separation from Christ and his word anymore than you can separate Christ from being God.
When we don’t live by “every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” there is “death” on the horizon. This phrase “mouth of God” only appears twice in the King James Bible. The other time is found in 2 Chronicles 35:22 where Josiah is struck with an arrow and dies as a result of him NOT hearkening “unto the words…from the mouth of God.” Josiah did not hearken to every word and by that choice Josiah did not live to see another day, eat another meal, or fight another battle. It cost him his life.
I don’t know what it might cost every man by choosing not to live by “every word,” and by live I mean “believe” (1 Thess. 2:13), but it’s more than anyone would or should want to pay.
