A True Disciple

This is the first and only time the word “disciples” shows up in the O.T. However, the word appears another 243 times in 231 N.T. verses.

A disciple of the LORD, then, is one who:

1. Seals God’s word in his heart purposefully

2. Serves the LORD patiently

3. Seeks the LORD persistently

4. Speaks the word of God practically and prophetically

Where man is found to speak that which he does not know or knows that what he speaks is not true, this man has no “no light” in him. He walks and speaks in darkness and in the flesh, not in the light of God’s word nor in the Spirit of God.

A disciple of God and his words should be diligent and discerning about what he hears and reads, so as not to be deceived by false prophets and preachers (verse 19).

When you “Sanctify (i.e. set apart) the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.” (verse 13), he will be “a sanctuary.” But if you put man ahead of God, you will find God to be a “stone of stumbling” and “rock of offence.” (verse 14)
