Commended and Committed
Here, in Acts 20:32, Paul is “commending” the “brethren” of Ephesus “to God, and to the word of his grace.” This commending is a charge to the brethren and the leaders of the local church.
He is committing and entrusting them to continue following God and continue to “feed the flock” (“church of God”) according to the “the word of his grace” because “grievous wolves” (false prophets/teachers) would “enter in…speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.”
As the children of God, we too have been commended to follow God and the word of his grace by the Holy Ghost through the reading, preaching, and teaching of the word of God. We need to commit ourselves to this commending for a few reasons:
1. Beware of the grievous wolves and their false doctrines
2. Build up our faith and beliefs in sound doctrine
3. Blessed with the inheritance within the kingdom of God
The commending has already taken place by the mere nature of our salvation, but we must commend or commit ourselves to follow through or we will become a casualty.
