Where's Your Heart?
It always comes down to whichever way the heart is desiring and leaning to go, it will go. No sooner do the Israelites leave Egypt that their hearts were desiring to go back, for one reason (“excuse”) or another.
When the heart is not right, having “turned back again into Egypt” (w/o stepping foot in it), it will “not obey.” It will “thrust” out those who are called to “rule over you” and “watch for your souls” (Hebrews 13:17) as shepherds “watch over their flock by night” (Luke 2:8; 1 Peter 5:2-3). It will make and worship the “gods” of this world, but will not worship the Lord Jesus Christ. It will make sacrifices for the gods of this world, but it will make excuses instead of sacrifices for the LORD GOD.
This all starts in the heart long before it manifests in action. The difference between “falling out” or “falling in” love with Jesus Christ is the way you are leaning.
