Suffered and Succoured
Jesus “himself…suffered being tempted” so that “he is able to succour them that are tempted.”
No Christian should expect to go through life without suffering trials, troubles, or temptations. Jesus Christ went through it, Paul went through it, our forefathers and martyrs went through it. But through it all God was faithful and present in his promises.
Paul writes “all that live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” (2 Timothy 3:12). It’s not a matter of IF, it’s a matter of WHEN.
But God, through Jesus Christ, is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think (Eph. 3:20). He is able to deliver us from evil. He is able to make a way of escape, so we might be able to bear it (1 Cor. 10:13).
He is able to succour us when we are tempted, so that we might be able to comfort or succour others who are tempted (2 Cor. 1).
