Perfect in Every Good Work

It is God “through Jesus Christ” that makes us “perfect in every good work to do his will.”

To be perfect in our walk and work does not mean to be “sinless” but rather it’s a state of maturity, completeness, or wholeness. None of us will ever be sinless when it comes to our works (i.e. state). We are only sinless as it pertains to our soul (i.e. standing).

So, as we grow in grace and in the love and knowledge of God, we mature in our behavior, our character, and our works. This growth takes place inwardly and is expressed or manifested outwardly, which is why “Paul” writes that the perfecting is “working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight.” The Holy Ghost is working in you, through Jesus Christ, to do his will and to do good works that he considers wellpleasing.

This is seen in other passages such as: Philippians 2:13; 3:12-15; Ephesians 3:16-19; etc.

If not for the peace of God and the blood of Christ, no child of God would be “perfect” in any situation. The blood of Christ cleanseth us from all sin, and the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keeps us in his grace.

Our responsibility is to yield our members to the Lord, and give him the glory for any good work that is done on his behalf.
