From Ruins to Rebuild

What an amazing act of compassion by Joseph in order to be reconciled with his brethren and help them to overcome their guilt of past sins. See Galatians 6:1!!

The Biblical counsel here is clear, “Stop identifying with the ruins of your past failures and look to rebuild for your future.” While reminding his brothers about their sins, his desire for them was that they would not be overcome by it. That they would not become bitter, discouraged, or angry with themselves continually over it. No good comes from continually reliving the past, only discouragement and regret. The past will leave scars but leave the scars in the past. The choice is either to live amongst the rubble or start rebuilding out of the rubble.

If anyone knew about past sins it was Paul, but Paul says in Philippians 3:13, “….forgetting those things which are behind (past), and reaching unto those things which are before (future).”

Joseph forgave his brethren long before they came into Egypt because God had showed him grace, mercy, and favor, and how it all worked together for good. Joseph already had the victory and a new life was made out of the ashes of his old life. He was now helping, in a spirit of meekness, to give that same hope to his brothers.
