Be Not Now Negligent
Be Not Now Negligent - 2 Chronicles 29:11
This is a great admonition and warning to us today, not as the sons of Levi, but as the “sons of God” (John 1:12). We are not to be negligent in our duties and responsibilities as Christians to “stand,” “serve,” “minister,” and pray (“burn incense”).
The word “negligent” means to be “heedless” or “careless.” Accustomed to omit what ought to be done or habitual carelessness and inattentiveness in business or necessary concerns.
This word only appears twice: once in the O.T. (here) and once in the N.T. (2 Peter 1:12). In that context, we (Pastors, Preachers, Teachers) are not to be negligent in reminding others (body of Christ) of what they already know, so that they might be “established in the present truth.” This showing that there is truth for the past, present, and future (i.e. Dispensations).
The word “neglect” is synonymous with “negligent,” and it appears three times in the N.T. One of those verses is found in 1 Timothy 4:14, which is aimed directly at a Pastor (Timothy) that has been ordained into the ministry. “Neglect not the gift that is in thee…” but can be applied to every member in the body of Christ when considering the “gift” that is in all of us is the gift of eternal life by the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. We should not “neglect…the gift that is in thee” by giving “attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.” And in verse 15, we should “meditate upon these things, give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.” Additionally, we should “Take heed…and…continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” Negligence of these duties and principles will eventually destroy one’s faith and trust in God and the scriptures.
Neglect of the truth will cause you to eventually reject the truth.
