There Is Hope
“There is Hope” - Job 11:18
The word hope is used 130 times in 121 verses in the AV1611, and this verse is the 9th time it is found. The word appears the most in the longest book of the Bible (150 chapters), Psalms, for a total of 22 times in 22 verses. The next Book, wherein the word “hope” is used the most, is the Book of Job (42 chapters). It appears 16 times in 15 verses, and 11:18 is the SEVENTH time it shows up in Job’s life.
It seems “odd” that the most disastrous, diabolical, and depressed book of the Bible regarding a man and his “troubles” would at the same time have the word “hope” associated with him. To be fair, several times the word is used in connection with the wicked who have no hope (verse 20; 8:13-14); but even in that truth, we find that a man who is “treated” as one (“hypocrite” “wicked”) who has no hope, ends up on the winning side of hope by chapter 42.
This phrase “there is hope” should be a reminder to us all, that even in the worst of situations, even when there seems to be no way out, even when the world, flesh, and devil are in the process of destroying us; “there is hope.” Job had no “daysman betwixt” (9:33) him and God the Father, yet there was still hope for him.
For the Christian, Jesus Christ is our “daysman,” our mediator, and our hope. Our hope is built in nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. 1 Timothy 1:1 - “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which IS OUR HOPE.”
