The Rock That Is Higher Than I
“The Rock That Is Higher Than I” - Psalm 61:2
Everyone at some point will become “overwhelmed” by the trials of life. Man is incapable of handling all that “life” has to throw at him. Debt. Discouragement. Depression. Disasters. Divorce. Disease. Death. All of these things, and so much more, are part of daily lives, regardless of how “clean” you are by how clean you live your life. Rain falls on the heads of the just and unjust alike, and even with an umbrella you can’t help the splashes and the puddles along the way, never mind that an umbrella does you no good when the water is rising.
If any man thinks he can make it on his own, the Bible says that man is deceiving himself (Galatians 6:3), and he’d better take heed lest he fall (1 Corinthians 10:12). Vain is the help of man. Man is no more a solid rock to climb or build upon than what the foolish man built his house upon in Luke 6.
Before, during, and after life becomes overwhelming, you’d do well to make sure you have a rock higher than yourself to run (“lead me”) to. No mortal man can get “high” enough to escape his problems. He needs the rock, the solid Rock, that ROCK is JESUS.
