Obey And Live
Just a simple four-letter word, “Obey,” and yet it is one of the most difficult and disobeyed commands in the Bible. Obedience to God’s words is the preeminent rule of law and order, and ”It is well” with the “soul” that obeys “the voice of the LORD.”
With so many voices in the world and with so many speeches being made throughout the day by the “talking heads” in government and media about what to think and what to accept or reject, none of those voices or speeches usurp the authority of what God has to say.
More often than not, we are “afraid” not to obey what man says or thinks rather than fearing the consequences of disobeying God (i.e. the fear of man bringeth a snare…the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom).
I Samuel 15:22 says, “Obedience is better than sacrifice…” and Jesus became “obedient unto the…death of the cross.” (Philippians 2:8) The writer of Hebrews says that “obedience” is “learned” through suffering (Hebrews 5:8).
One Hymn writer wrote, “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” A children’s song says, “Obedience is the very best way to show that you believe doing exactly as the Lord commands, doing it faithfully. O-B-E-D-I-E-N-C-E, obedience is the very best way to show what you believe.”
Obedience is a life or death situation. Choose life. Choose to obey.
